FAQ

  • Cosmetic tattooing, also known as semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation, is a procedure that implants pigment beneath the skin’s surface using sterile, disposable needles. This technique enhances natural features by mimicking hair strokes, defining makeup-like effects, or providing subtle enhancements.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to receive a cosmetic tattoo service at Contour and Ink.

  • For safety reasons, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on individuals who are pregnant or nursing.

  • Absolutely! At Contour and Ink, we maintain the highest hygiene standards. We use sterile, single-use needles and disposable supplies, ensuring a safe and clean environment. All workstations are thoroughly disinfected before and after each client.

  • A highly effective numbing cream and gel are applied before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Pain tolerance varies, but we take every measure to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible. Note that sensitivity may be heightened during your menstrual cycle, and smokers may find that numbing effects wear off more quickly. Clients with Fibromyalgia may also experience increased sensitivity.

  • If you’ve had Botox or filler near the treatment area, wait at least 3 weeks before your cosmetic tattoo appointment to allow the products to settle.

  • Yes. Skincare products containing retinol, glycolic acid, or exfoliants can cause fading over time. We recommend stopping these products 3–4 weeks before your procedure and avoiding direct application on the tattooed area post-healing.

  • We have detailed Pre/Postcare instructions listed here. It is highly beneficial to follow these instructions to ensure a comfortable healing process and to achieve the best results.

  • Cosmetic tattoos are designed to fade over time, typically requiring touch-ups every 1–2 years. The longevity depends on various factors, including pigment color, sun exposure, and skincare habits. Results vary, and multiple sessions may be needed to achieve the desired look. Your second session can be booked no sooner than 8 weeks after your initial appointment.

  • Most clients require at least two sessions, spaced 8 weeks apart. The pigment will lighten during the healing process, and adjustments can be made at your follow-up session. Every skin type retains pigment differently, so additional touch-ups may be necessary.

    • Sun Exposure: UV rays can fade the tattoo, so applying sunscreen after healing is recommended.

    • Skin Regeneration: Faster cell turnover leads to quicker fading.

    • Pigment Absorption: How your skin retains pigment varies.

    • Color Choice: Lighter shades fade faster than darker ones.

    • Bleeding: Blood thinners, alcohol, and certain medications can reduce pigment absorption.

    • Aftercare Compliance: Proper care during the healing phase is essential for best results.

    • Iron Deficiency: Low iron levels may affect pigment retention.

  • We customize pigment blends to match your skin tone and natural hair color. While most tattoos fade gradually and naturally, some clients may experience color shifts due to individual skin chemistry, lifestyle, and iron levels. A touch-up every 1–2 years helps maintain your desired look.

    • Apply sunscreen daily to maintain color vibrancy.

    • Avoid aggressive exfoliation and harsh skin treatments on the tattooed area.

    • Inform skincare and medical professionals about your cosmetic tattoo before undergoing procedures like chemical peels or laser treatments.

  • Appointments can be scheduled through our online booking system. A deposit is required to secure your spot. If you have trouble booking online and are flexible with availability, we’re happy to assist via phone or in person.

  • If you’ve had Botox or filler near the treatment area, wait at least 3 weeks before your cosmetic tattoo appointment to allow the products to settle.
